The recent earthquake, Easter Day, 4/4/2010 wasa mountain building event for the mountains, but a deepening event for the lagoon. Million of dollars are being spent on defining exactly the effects of this event. Also millions of tons if delta material were moved deeper into the Gulf reducing the cost of opening the lagoon to the gulf, but by an unknown quanitity. Nearly 47 linear miles of surface ruptures occured along the Laguna Salada Fault on the west side.
