The Honorable Dennis R. Shaw, J.D., CEOContact me at (619) 370-0890 or E-mail. Bio:Dennis Shaw (Denny) was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1947. He attended UCLA and was designated a Distinguished Military Cadet and Distinguished Military Graduate concurrent with the award of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1969. One year later, he was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis by the University of Lancaster, located in Lancashire, England. He then served on active duty in the United States Air Force for the next seven years with assignments in the areas of training, administration, intelligence, executive support, and as Commander of the 3727th Basic Military Training Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. During his military service, Mr. Shaw was decorated with a Commendation Medal and two Meritorious Service Medals. He resigned his Regular Air Force commission in 1977 to attend law school; but he continued his military service for an additional seven years in the Air Force Reserve. Mr. Shaw received his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1980. He practiced law in San Diego as a partner in a law firm in La Jolla, devoting his practice to business law and trial work. He also taught graduate and undergraduate Administrative Law courses in the School of Public Administration and Urban Studies at San Diego State University. Mr. Shaw left his law practice when called to serve in the Reagan Administration. During that time, he received appointments as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Reserve Affairs), Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense (Reserve Affairs), and Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy (Policy). For his outstanding accomplishments as an appointee in the Reagan Administration (SES-6), Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger awarded Mr. Shaw the highest DoD civilian medal for Distinguished Public Service (Gold). Mr. Shaw also completed a special project for Secretary of Defense Frank Carlucci, who awarded him the second highest Department of Defense civilian medal for Outstanding Public Service (Silver) as Director of the National Defense Strategic Stockpile. Currently, Mr. Shaw is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of i-SAFE America, Inc., a federally funded non-profit foundation (in Carlsbad, California) that provides K-12 schools nationwide with a no-cost Internet safety education program that enables children and teens to reduce the risk of their being victimized while engaged in activities on the Internet. He also practices law in Southern California, specializing in appellate and business law as well as corporate turn-arounds. He is an adjunct professor of Business Law at Point Loma Nazarene University, where he has taught business law, real estate and management courses since 1996. He was a candidate for San Diego County Superior Court Judge in the 2000 Primary election and received more than 33 percent of the votes cast in San Diego County. From 1988 to 1996, he was the CEO of two San Diego companies (a ship repair company and an electronics engineering and manufacturing company). Mr. Shaw has been an active member of the San Diego community since 1989, with past service as a member of the Board of Directors of the San Diego USO, the Armed Forces YMCA, and the Combined Arts and Education Council of San Diego County. He has been a volunteer for many PTA and school fund-raising activities and, most recently, served as a volunteer member of the Advisory Council to the multi-congregational Mid-City Nazarene Church. Mr. Shaw and his wife Mistie were married in San Antonio, Texas, in 1973. They are native Californians who have lived in San Diego, off-and-on, for a total of 19 years. They have two sons and a daughter. In 2002, Mrs. Shaw completed her Masters in Religion at Point Loma Nazarene University and in June 2004 she was awarded a Masters in Theology by the Graduate Theological Union and Franciscan School of Theology at the University of California at Berkeley.
